Welcome from Kevin Foust

Dear Virginia Tech community,

“The task ahead of us is never as great as the power behind us.”

I got to thinking how this poignant Ralph Waldo Emerson quote is highly applicable to our culture of safety and security at Virginia Tech; one that is powered by deep expertise, collaboration, and an unparalleled dedication to service.

These values are also the connective force among Virginia Tech Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and the Virginia Tech Police Department, linking these individual units together as one Safety and Security Division.

Our collective efforts as a division continue to catalyze safety initiatives across all Virginia Tech campuses — from Blacksburg to Roanoke, Tidewater, to the Greater Washington, D.C., metro region, even to our overseas campus in Switzerland.

Safety and Security team members continue to forge strong partnerships inside the university among students, faculty, staff, and administration. In advancing safety and preparedness, we also continue to build on the strong cooperation we have with the Town of Blacksburg, as well as Montgomery County, Richmond, and across so many municipalities in the state.

I am truly proud to lead the Safety and Security Division and to have served as chief of the Virginia Tech Police Department for five years.

We will continue to strive to enhance the safety culture at Virginia Tech; one that is ready to meet the needs of our dynamic evolving community.

Please do not hesitate to contact the division with any questions or concerns at 540-231-4916. It is our privilege to serve the Virginia Tech community and we are here to help.
